Free Samples

Not sure what I enjoy most about Thursdays, the fact that I get to wear a cute farmers market outfit or indulging in the free samples at the market, hmmm, I think I’ll go for the latter option.

Westport Farmers Market is the place to be on Thursday between 10am and 2pm. They offer all sorts of greatness, from chocolate brownies, organic vegetable, fresh flowers, an array of fresh cheeses (no, not baby Jesus- Modern family episode), fresh fish and anything else fresh and organic you think of.

In my last post, I blogged my wish list, in-between then and now I was able to check off an item off my wish list, and lucky enough my Birkenstocks paired with my ripped boyfriend jeans made for the perfect farmers market outfit.

Eyes like a shutter, mind like lens

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment thats gone forever and impossible to reproduce” – Karl Lagerfeld

Photography has always been something that I enjoyed, from the mere age of 13 I found myself taking my parents camera and snapping away, weather it pictures of my pet bird, my friends, my family or nature, I was always being scolded at for using too much film and later all the memory space on the digital.

Although I wouldn’t consider myself as a ‘photographer’, because I had (up until this past week) no idea how to use the manual function of a camera, I have always enjoyed taking photos, my Facebook page is a true representation of my over-enthusastic passion for taking photos, with over 3000 photos. (some being really shocking to say the least-I find myself scrolling through Facebook some nights deleting all the pointless ones)

The past week I have found myself being overly inqusitive with the manual function of the camera and I even made an impulsive purchase and bought a new lens. My host mom has recently started a blog of her own-Anchored and Gray– and has needed someone to take some photos of her outfits, this someone happened to be me. Taking photos of her has encouraged me to gain confidence in using the manual function an I managed to achieve some really great shots.

A special thanks to the following people for helping me tick off ‘Learn to shoot with my camera on manual’ on my bucket list:

– Matthew Moon

– Debbie Veysie

– Emelie Dahlbeck

Running down the street with my Nike’s on

So winter got the best of me and I shamefully allowed myself to fall out of my daily running routine, you know how it is, when its cold and all you want to do is eat, sleep and keep warm…and then finally after 6 months of hibernation, you pull out those summer daisy dukes and realize how badly you need to put your sneakers on and run, run, run.

It had been a long time since I last set out on a my daily 6km run to the beach, but with bikini-season just around the corner, I figured I had to start getting into some sort of bathing-suit-acceptable shape. Lately I’ve been trying to get back into my daily 6km running routine, its tough getting back into it, but with all the beautiful weather we’ve been having lately, its been delightful to get out in the fresh air, and just appreciate nature and its resplendent beauty, while getting into shape and stopping to smell the flowers along the way (literally)

Make your friends Jelly

Ah, the blissful memories of childhood spring time. Think of a fresh glass of Oros in hand, stargazing, and pool outings (which were then tragically followed by the dreaded case of sunburns). Before our sartorial lives became infiltrated by longings for designer accessories and clothing, I, believe it or not, lived in a time of style simplicity. As a child, my closets were most likely a familiar blend of oversized tees, denim overalls, itchy Grandma sweaters, and of course, the jelly shoe.

The jelly shoe was your answer to an adventure down to the beach, exploring the seemingly infinite world of your backyard, or simply playing a game of hide and seek with your best friend. Fast forward to the present. Today, the jelly shoe is making its long awaited comeback to the fashion realm. Today’s modern jelly shoe has been graced with a makeover that it renders it appropriate for the style-conscious women of the twenty-first century.

You now may be swapping childhood pool time with exotic beach trips to the Caribbean, but that doesn’t mean your feet should be no longer attired in something stylish as well.  Not only does the soft, plastic material ensure that you can wear your precious jellies on virtually any terrain, dry or wet, but it allows you to venture and explore in true comfort. Forget about blisters and sore feet! These shoes certainly aren’t called “jelly” for nothing. They are sure to add sweet touch to any fashionistas wardrobe.

Life and its daily lessons

Things I’ve learnt lately:
1. Happiness is a daily choice that you get to make all on your own.

2. People are the only real treasures in this world. Not gold, silver or Prada

3. Love is a verb

4. Generous hands will never be empty

5. Your heart knows what’s best for you, listen to it

6. Sunsets are like music to the eyes

7. Peace is not an external force but originates within

8. The future is now

9. You are never going to be as young as you are right now. Treasure your youth

10. Freedom is precious

11.Knowledge comes easy to a person of understanding

12. Heaven is in our hearts

13. A childlike imagination is something to always hold onto

14. If you don’t have expectations of people, you’ll never be disappointed

15. Fun comes in all kinds of packages

16. Spontaneity is the key to a life of adventure

17. If you want to see the greatest piece of art ever created, just open up your window and take a look outside. Creation is a wonder.

18. Be grateful for your memories; nobody else is the world has the same ones you do

19. If you live for the approval of others, you’ll die at their disapproval

20.If you’re looking for faults, you’re going to find them.
